Dr. Mary Bennett Houston, DDS
Dr. Mary Bennett Houston is a general dentist in Roxboro, North Carolina. Having practiced dentistry for 30 years in the Chapel Hill/Durham Area, Dr. Houston is thrilled to be in her own solo dental practice in Roxboro. She has focused her career on individualized dental care for patients with an emphasis on patient education, patient involvement in their dental care, and preventive as well as restorative dental care.
Dr. Houston grew up in Goldsboro, NC and attended UNC-Chapel Hill as a Morehead Scholar. She practiced as a registered nurse for 2 years before attending UNC School of Dentistry, where she graduated near the top of her class.
After completing the UNC Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency in 1988, Dr. Houston was in her solo private practice in Chapel Hill until 2000. During this time, she earned her Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry, and attended the Dawson Academy and the LD Pankey Institute where she developed much of her philosophy of dental care. In order to spend more time with her family and parents, Dr.Houston left her own practice in 2001 and spent the next 16 years practicing with first Dr. Laura Chamberlain in Durham then Dr. Steve Hart in Chapel Hill. In 2015 Dr. Houston met Dr. Tom Alexander who practiced in Roxboro for 43 years. In late 2016 they decided to join together and to continue the practice Dr. Alexander had developed.
Dr. Houston now practices full time in Roxboro. She is an active member of the NC Dental Society, Durham/Orange Dental Society, American Dental Association, Pankey Area Study Club, as well as Roxboro Rotary Club and Walnut Grove United Methodist Church.
Dr. Houston and her family moved to their farm in Cedar Grove in 2000. The whole family enjoys farm life, especially horses. Husband Richard runs the farm. Daughter Sarah just started at NC State University. Dr. Houston enjoys farming, horseback riding, gardening, reading and cooking.
